A strongbox was a type of travelling chest and these types of boxes were more common in England than anywhere else where they were fabricated between 1660 and 1720. The earliest proof of an existing strongbox has been found on the inventory list of Edward Traherne, a renowned joiner and cabinet-maker who died in London in 1675.<\/p>\n

Behind the fall front three drawers, on the underside of the lid, behind a flap a space for small letters, with long screws in the side panels to be fixed on a table, for stability or against thieves, part ebonized and ebony.<\/p>\n
