A fine small Indonesian, possibly Ambonese, Djati wood bench<\/p>\n

First half of the 18th century<\/p>\n

The back splat elaborately carved in scrolling foliate and floral motif, the plain, caned, seat resting on four curved legs ending in lion’s paws.<\/p>\n

Measures: H. 96 x W. 115 x D. 63.5 cm<\/p>\n

Note:<\/p>\n

The carvings in the legs, feet and the back rail of this settee are quite similar to those in a larger settee from Hutumuri in the island of Ambon now in the Collection of the Tropenmuseum Amsterdam (see Jan Veenendaal, Furniture from Indonesia, Sri Lanka an India, Pl. 92).<\/span><\/p>\n
