Provenance by repute: Elise de Wolfe (Lady Mendl). Irwin J. Smith of Rockwood, TN attended New York School of Art (now Parsons) in 1920s, falling into the social circle of Elsie de Wolfe and Elisabeth Marbury. Some years and success later Mr. Smith touring Europe dropped in on an old acquatience Lady Mendel (de Wolfe) at her home Villa Trianon outside of Paris, thus the sale of items and shipping to Pittsburgh.
