Wonderful 17th Century Aubusson landscape tapestry featuring a paradisiacal vision of a country house and gardens.<\/p>\n

Aubusson Verdure tapestries originated from workshops set up between the towns of Clermont- Ferrand, and Limoges in France. <\/p>\n

In the 17th and 18th centuries, Aubusson successfully rivaled Gobelins and Beauvais tapestry.<\/p>\n

They generally relied upon engravings, with their most famous tapestries decorated with illustrations drawn from the fables of French poet Jean de La Fontaine. Figures are set against a background of ‘verdure’ in Aubusson tapestries. <\/p>\n

This is a particularly good example of Aubusson tapestry work as it depicts a large country house and gardens that are surrounded by various trees, flowers, and exotic birds. <\/p>\n

The whole is enclosed within a scrolling border of foliage. <\/p>\n

A truly fantastic wall hanging that would suit both classic and contemporary interiors.<\/span><\/p>\n
