The top of this large pig bench consists of two slabs of elm over 2” thick, spline- joined with two oak braces dovetailed into the underside as additional reinforcement. At one end an iron staple is driven into the end grain. At the other end an iron clasp does the job. These contrast with a modern repair on the edge of one side. The oak legs are sturdy and rectangular, mortised into oak cleats attached to the underside of the top. It has not been used as a chopping block but has seen moderate purposeful use. Knee clearance is 28″.
