Vintage Mid Century Modern Ice Crusher

Don’t just Talk the Talk — Walk the Walk with this mid century bar accessory made in Philadelphia, PA by North Bros. Manufacturing Company. Named the Lightning Ice Breaker, it’s body is very heavy thick glass with a 20 ounce capacity. The thick stainless ‘lightning rod’ has razor sharp pointy ice crushing teeth on the end. Black and red bands around the body measure 4, 8 and 12 ounces.

A stylish piece of barware for some serious ice crushing! Truly a functional and good looking addition to any bar. These particular vintage pieces are very rare and hard to find because they got a lot of abuse! This one here unbelievably still has the original wood piece that sits below the ice crushing teeth. That piece is to protect the glass from chipping when being used. Most of the time that piece is missing.

Selden Gladwin North established a foundry in Philadelphia in 1878. His brother, Ralph, joined the company in 1880 and the company became North Brothers. The name was changed to North Brothers Manufacturing Co. in 1887. The company made ice cream makers, egg beaters, meat cutters, tobacco cutters and ice crushers & other metal items. By 1910 it was making screwdrivers, drills, braces and other tools. North Brothers Manufacturing Co. was sold to The Stanley Works in 1946.
