Traditional Swedish bench with storage. These type of benches were typically made and used on farms in mid- to late 19th century. The storage inside the bench was typically filled with straw and blankets and people would sleep in them. They were often placed in the kitchen near the stove and would function as seating during dinner and convert to sleeping later in the evening when the stove would still emanate heat. Even though few people would sleep in them today they are still great in the kitchen arund the dining or breakast table The inviting, warm pine has been kept natural and remains un-restored. The piece show some natural wear due to age and use and some small dryness cracks but remains solid and sturdy. Overall very good condition.
