Vintage Design
A pair of Säter armchairs designed by Gunnar Göpert in 1948 for the Swedish manufacturer Göperts Industri, Jönköping. Made from solid pine with original blue fabric. The model was showcased as news in a full-page ad in the design magazine Form in the spring of 1948. Göperts Industri was one of many Swedish manufacturers that produced rustic pinewood furniture in the first half of the 20th century. The style, often referred to as Sportstugemöbler (Sport Cabin Furniture), became popular in the 1920s when paid vacation was introduced, and not just the wealthiest could afford a small house in the countryside. Architects like Axel-Einar Hjorth and Carl Malmsten started designing rustic furniture suitable for these countryside retreats.
