This graceful gilt bronze striking clock is from France’s Directoire period. The clocks white enameled face has black Roman numerals and is framed with a gilt ring in the classical wrapped ribbon design which is typical of the Directoire period especially the restrained decorated urn shaped bronze body and gilt finials. The back opens with a fabric lined pierced metal door. It has ball feet and a gadrooned top mounted with a moving globe of concentric circles. The timepiece’s pendulum is placed behind the clock giving it a more subtle appearance when in motion. It strikes on the hour and half hour. An elegant addition to any room. In running order.
