He is best known for his work at Century Furniture Company, where he was the head of design from 1952 to 1986. He was a pioneer in the use of plywood in furniture design, and his work helped to popularize the style in the 1950s and 1960s. Sobota’s most famous designs include the Century Brasilia collection, which was inspired by the Brazilian modernist movement. Sobota retired from Century Furniture in 1986, but he continued to design furniture until his death in 2000.
