Creil & Montereau was created in 1840 with the fusion of two rival firms: Creil (created in 1774) and Montereau (created in 1745). This earthenware (and porcelain) manufactory was famous for its faïence Fine (lead-glazed earthenware) and its English and Wedgwood inspiration and also for its technique of engraved image decal.
Creil & Montereau manufactured the famous “Rousseau” service with the engravings created by Felix Bracquemond in 1866 and became renowned for its whole production, enough to be mentioned in Gustave Flaubert’s book ‘Sentimental Education’ (in French: L’Éducation sentimentale)!
