In the trade, we commonly call these an Olive Oil Jar, but are actually an amphora, which is a type of container of a specific shape and dimension, which began in the Neolithic Period, which ran from approximately 9000BC to 3500BC. Amphorae vessels were used to transport olive oil and wine. Interior designers typically will use the amphora vases as you would a piece of sculpture and they are equally at home placed inside the house or outside. This particular Olive Oil Jar is an unusual size, in that most of the jars tend to be about 4-5 feet high and this beautiful jar is just over 2-feet in height.
