The Rijksmuseum with 2 tiers is a faithful copy of a the original model displayed in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. The imposing Rijksmuseum 800.3 evokes the grandeur of the Dutch Golden Age. At 85cm high and wide, twelve solid brass arms extend gracefully from the hand-cast frame ornately embellished with swirling metalwork. Though modeled on a centuries-old original, this commanding replica is wired along the arms for modern use while retaining the historical charm. With its rich, lustrous glow and intricate craftsmanship, the Rijksmuseum 800.3 pays tribute to Holland’s master metalworkers who created ornate fixtures that illuminated palaces and civic spaces.
Original historical moulds from the era are utilised to create the brass components. Additionally, casting is still done the old-fashioned way in a greasy type of sand called Brussels’ soil. After the crown has been varnished, skilled artisans assemble the components. Electric wires run subtly along the arms, as they are made out of solid brass. The arms and curls are soldered together. While the crowns are being put together, the electrical wiring and lighting components are covertly placed.
Brink & van Keulen, a family-owned business founded in 1946, upholds the art of casting by producing the highest calibre brass chandeliers. Chandeliers by Brink and van Keulen can be found in a number of prestigious churches and monumental buildings in the Netherlands and other parts of the world. Through the transmission of knowledge through many generations, Brink & van Keulen has substantially aided in the preservation of the Dutch yellow casting craft. The business is the sole manufacturer of chandeliers using original casting moulds from the 17th century in all of Europe.
