18th century Directoire Period Country French buffet in stripped oak is a splendid example of the tailored architecture made popular just before and after the turn of the 19th century. Hand-crafted from seasoned old-growth oak, it features a generous overhang on the surface, with vertical fluting on the cornerposts and center stile framing the elegantly understated molding on the cabinet doors, as well as the raised diamond patterns on the three drawers. The center drawer was smaller and fitted with lock to secure the family’s cutlery in one of the earliest examples of “child proofing”. Brass knobs, key guards and hinges add a nice visual touch. The sheer natural beauty and patina of the wood shine forth thanks to our proprietary non-toxic, non-petrochemical stripping process.
