Abstract cubist quilted wall hanging. Made from fabric depicting a town with a surrounding of waves and multicolored other textures.
The style can be described as the Dutch art, design and architecture movement “De Stijl”. The cubist graphic shapes remind of designs and works by Piet Mondriaan. Handmade in the Netherlands around the 1960s.

17th Century French Aubusson Tapestry

Wonderful 17th Century Aubusson landscape tapestry featuring a paradisiacal vision of a country house and gardens.

Aubusson Verdure tapestries originated from workshops set up between the towns of Clermont- Ferrand, and Limoges in France.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, Aubusson successfully rivaled Gobelins and Beauvais tapestry.

They generally relied upon engravings, with their most famous tapestries decorated with illustrations drawn from the fables of French poet Jean de La Fontaine. Figures are set against a background of ‘verdure’ in Aubusson tapestries.

This is a particularly good example of Aubusson tapestry work as it depicts a large country house and gardens that are surrounded by various trees, flowers, and exotic birds.

The whole is enclosed within a scrolling border of foliage.

A truly fantastic wall hanging that would suit both classic and contemporary interiors.
