18th Century French Directoire Period Walnut Draper’s Table with Marquetry Band

A grand 18th century French Directoire period table de drapier from a draper’s atelier in Narbonne, a wealthy port city in Southern France in the Occitanie region, circa 1780s. Handcrafted of solid walnut with a marquetry baguette or band on the reeded edge top, this monumental drapery table features four large drawers and is raised on six elegantly carved scrolling legs with a center column and large bottom shelf. Drapery tables were a common feature in the cloth merchant’s shops, but exceptionally fine tables like this one were very rare. Featuring an abundant surface area that would have been used by seamstresses to measure and cut fabrics and textiles with the drawers below on each side for storing shears, scissors, snips, and other tools of the trade. The large shelf on the bottom provided space for storing extra fabrics. This superb French draper’s table with its rich, warm patina will be a statement piece that adds character to any room. Perfect as a kitchen island or console table, it will also work well in a foyer, restaurant, or as a store display. We have seen many fine drapery tables, but this one is by far the most beautiful and spectacular one we have ever seen.

By definition this incredible Table would be called a; Cast Iron Stable Fitting manufactured by Musgrave & Co LTD. Musgrave Bros began manufacturing in Belfast in the 1840’s and had established themselves as one of the premier iron works in Ireland. During the 1890’s Musgrave outfitted stables for members of the aristocracy and wealthy landowners throughout the world. The most famous example is The Royal Mews at Buckingham palace where Musgrave outfitted the stables for Queen Victoria and is still in use to this day. Whether you use this incredible Cast Iron Table as a Kitchen Island, or Outside as the ultimate Barbeque Table or a Garden Table it surely makes statement and is a great conversation piece.

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely original circa 1920s fully stamped Hennes Fils Constructeur 12 Rue Talensac nantes French Butchers table with bronzed mounts and gallery glass top

A sublime table with a one of a kind restoration. The table came to me as you see it after being restored by Alex from “The Restorers” Drew Pritchard’s spin off TV show to Salvage Hunters

Alex glued and clamped the top block then had made these custom mounts using plaster I think it was mixed with real bronze powder, they then had a glass gallery top made so the piece can be used as a normal occasional or kitchen work table. We further restored the piece by fully worm treating it three times, securing the base frame joints and lastly re aligning the drawers. The piece is now fully restored and ready for the new owner

Other than the above the timber has been deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished. The bronzed mounts have wear to the finish, the glass top has the odd chip around the edge

For the past 30-years, Old Plank has been involved in Country Style Kitchens, both, English and French designs. Whether it was an unfitted Kitchen, using all Antique components, or constructing new stainless and Bronze Kitchen Islands, we are always on the lookout for something unusual, great looking and that puts a smile on your face. What you see here in our 1stdibs listing, may just be the most unusual Kitchen Repurposed Antique item yet, for it was a snooker table. Yes, I know it looks too small to be a 12’x 6’ snooker table and so we sliced and diced and made it into two identical Kitchen Islands. This newly reworked Kitchen Island was made by Daniel Harris & Son at the Charlemont Bridge Works factory in Dublin, Ireland. Our best guess is that this Kitchen Island was first constructed in the late 1800’s and is made from cast iron, minus one component we had to cast ourselves. To say that this is a sturdy Kitchen Island, would be a gross understatement, for you probably can place any top surface you can dream of, with no concerns for structural stability. The green paint, minus one side is all old and not something that was recently enhanced. We have been a bit betwixt on what color marble we would add, or whether to install an old Butcher Block on one end and the rest Marble or poured concrete? For these reasons, we thought that we’d first offer our Industrial Inspired Kitchen Island, or Kitchen Work Table without a top and let the new owner decide what their preference might be. Marble top is not included in the price, but we can source one for you.

Oak Pig Bench Butcher’s Block Table

The top of his magnificent Pig Bench is a single slab of oak over 3’ thick. It is gnarled, chopped, and cupped through decades of purposeful use. The hand-sawn legs are mortised directly into the underside of the top and are splayed for stability. At around 24”, it is a great height for use as a base for heavy kitchen or workshop jobs.

Country English Pastry Shop Potential Kitchen Island, Marble Top All Original

Located just outside the Cotswold’s in England, we were fortunate enough to discover this incredible all original marble topped pastry kitchen island, with an old cream painted wooden frame, with a slatted undertier. Finding old, completely unmolested, all original tables that can be substituted for a modern generic new kitchen island, is something that we, at Old Plank have specialized in for over 30-years. The trick has always been to locate an antique potential kitchen island, that was used commercially, yet finished on all four-sides and if you’re real lucky, it’ll have a marble top. This antique English kitchen island rings all the bells, for it has not been restored and was not put together with old wood, but rather in the same condition as when it was first placed in the bakery over 100-years ago.

Finding an Old Painted Industrial Work Table, that would make a unique Kitchen Island is one of the hardest finds in our business today and one of the most sought-after Kitchen components, the unusual and very Special Kitchen Island. The paint is old and you can see where it was once painted white and at some later point the Antique Swedish Table was repainted in a Gustavian Putty Grey colour. Currently, the existing height of the Kitchen Island, or Industrial Painted Work Table stands at 34” and there are a few options that we could explore to extend the height to a full 36” and we would be happy to discuss those with you. Since we are not the original importer of record for the Painted Kitchen Island, there is in our opinion at least a chance that it could also be French made.
