Pair of French Late 19th/Early 20th Century Directoire Style Demilune Console Tables

Each console table of demilune shape with four feet ending in gilt-bronze sabots which carry the stretcher at the lower part of the console. Four slender fluted columns standing on the stretcher support the table top which holds one frieze drawer. The frieze drawer with neoclassical gilt-bronze ring handles and Louis XVI style key hole decoration. Only one of the drawers consists of a lock and its key. Each console table is topped by a mottled grey marble slab which is surrounded by a pierced gilt-bronze gallery.
The design of the pair of Directoire console tables is inspired by pieces of famous late 18th / early 19th century cabinet makers such as Jaques-Laurent Cosson, Georges I Jacob or Bernard Molitor.

A pair of Belgian demilune consoles from the turn of the century, circa 1800. In the French Directoire taste, this pair of consoles make a statement. Saint Anne marble tops fit over their mahogany bases making for a durable surface. Ebonized inlay diamond motifs are found throughout the bases, typical of the simplistic Directoire style. Fine French early 19th century walnut neoclassical console or pier table, the top with wooden gallery edge with ebonized molded edge over two drawers retaining lion mask pulls, the legs of term form with bronze caryatids, having ebonized tapering form and ending in bronze feet, standing on platform base with mirrored back, the whole will pleasing nutty color and patination.
Provincial Empire period furniture is scarce and pier tables especially so. This example is notable for its architectural form and great scale.

This Classic Directoire French console table has a beautiful mahogany veneer. The brass fittings are original. The marble top is framed by a pierced brass railing. The console table has one central drawer. Additionally, the lower part has a shelf which is also decorated with a pierced railing. Two small pieces of the railing are missing.

Each freestanding console is raised by slender square tapered legs joined by a fine bottom shelf with most decorative concave fronts and sides.
