A Dutch Colonial vintage Indonesian square center table from the mid-20th century, with marble inset. Born in Indonesia during the midcentury period, this elegant center table features a square top with white veined marble inset. The apron, presenting drawers, is resting on an unusual base accented with thin straight supports connected to the apron through curving brackets. The stepped pedestal, reminiscent of a pyramid, is raised on petite elongated bracket feet. A very handsome Continental 19th century Directoire st. flamed mahogany and marble center table. The table is raised by three elegant patinated legs with giltwood feet and eagle head designs. The legs are joined by a curved triangular mahogany stretcher. The flamed mahogany frieze is decorated with foliate borders. All below the impressive thick mottled edge Gris St. Anne marble top. With all original warm patina and gilt.

Base in walnut and ebonized wood of the Directoir period of the Late 18’ century, made with special care and ‘original choice of the Radica and marquetry.
Provenance from an Aristocratic family descendant of Parma.

This particular Imperial grade of porphyry came from a quarry in the Eastern Desert of Egypt.
The term “porphyry” is from Latin and means “purple”. Purple was the color of royalty, and the “Imperial Porphyry” was a deep brownish purple igneous rock with large crystals of plagioclase. This rock was prized for various monuments and building projects in Imperial Rome and later.

French 19th Century Directoire Style Side/Center Table

An exceptional and most decorative French 19th century Directoire style flamed mahogany, rosewood, maplewood and ormolu side/center table. The table is raised by its original casters below elegant scalloped shaped supports with fine ormolu fillets and pierced palmettes shaped designs. Each support is connected by a striking turned stretcher from where a beautiful lightly curved support extends supporting the two leaves above. Two column shaped supports with ormolu top caps and capitals lead up to the lovely masterfully inlaid top. The center of the top displays elegant rosewood diamond shaped inlays framed within maplewood borders and flamed mahogany. Each of the removable sides of the table pull out to be stored and the central support folds inward.

Centre Table Commemorating the Paris Treaty and the USA Independence, Dated 1886

A very interesting centre table commemorating the Paris Treaty between the original thirteen states of the United States of America and Great Britain ending the American Revolution or War of Independence in 1783

France, or the United States of America, 1886, signed and dated, Camurri Enrico Fece l’anno ‘86

Walnut, maple, burr maple and poplar, in the centre of the top pictorial inlays with various woods and ivory showing British and American negotiators, surrounded by four oval scenes of triumphal chariots with classical gods, drawn by horses, cockerels and a dragon, interspersed with bellflower vines, resting on marquetry inlaid octagonal baluster column with four sculptured sea creatures as its legs.

Measures: H. 70 x W. 143 x D. 112 cm.

The decoration of the negotiators is loosely based on Benjamin West’s unfinished 1783-84 painting ‘American Commissioners of the Preliminary Peace Negotiations with Great Britain’ (in the Winterthur Museum). The table commemorates 100 years of independence of the United States of America. The style of the table is French Charles X, early 19th century, and no longer fashionable in France in 1886. Therefore, it could very well be an American made table.

This is a spectacular satinwood and kingwood bronze mounted center table. The table is designed in the manner of Adam Weisweiler and looks like a 250 year old example of his work. The table dates to the 1950s era and is in good condition and has some minor scuffs shown on top which may be able to be polished out by us with a buffer and some polishing compound. We’ll do our best. The table measures 42 x 42 x 30.5 tall.
