Antique 18th Century VOC Dutch Colonial Padouk Ebony Secretary Desk Bureau 1730

A very rare antique Dutch Colonial V.O.C. (Dutch East India Company) fall front bureau/desk on stand, Batavia, circa 1730.
This desk in the Queen Anne style was made in the Dutch East Indies, known as Batavia (now Indonesia) under the Colonial Dutch. The desk is made from padouk (Amboyna) and ebony wood, the desk having an ebony ‘rippled’ gallery to the top that follows the outline of the desk. The paneled fall front with a pierced work escutcheon & key, surrounded with four circular bosses. The fall front encloses a fitted interior with four gothic arched ebony pigeon holes flanked with two banks of three ‘ripple’ fronted drawers, with one wider drawer to the middle. In the floor of the desk is a slide enclosing a ‘secret’ stotrage reservoir, the fall front is supported by a pair of pull-out lopers & pierced & engraved brass hinges to the inside.
The base of the desk has a pair of drawers with pierced brass escutcheons & handles and corresponding circular brass bosses, the desk is raised on a low stand with a shaped skirt & short cabriole legs.
Condition is remarkably very good, no damage or restoration noted, this very elegant Dutch Colonial desk from the first quarter of the 1700’s is ready to grace your home or office.

Rare Two Piece Antique Dutch Marquetry Secretary Desk Cabinet with Mirrored Door

This is a truly unique and rare form of secretary abatant in Flemish or Dutch marquetry. The marquetry is done in walnut and satinwood and features a mirrored door with a fantastic pull-out leather desk surface and drawers inside the top. The cabinet is in two pieces and very solidly made. Dates to the 1900s era and is absolutely beautiful with minor signs of age and use but nothing significant. The secretary is probably from around 1740 and the origin is southern Germany

The secretary is nut tree veneer on softwood

Height approx. 197 cm, width body approx. 93.5 cm, maximum width approx. 96 cm, depth corpus approx. 35 cm, maximum depth approx. 60 cm, Writing plate height approx. 71 cm

The secretary consists of two/three parts, top, middle part and lower part.

Good used condition with low signs of wear,
Partly supplemented, damaged, with missing parts, shrinkage, old restored, see pictures. Pictures are part of the auction.

Small very narrow baroque secretary with a body of only 93.5 cm and a maximum width in the cornice of 96 cm. The secretary should be classified around 1740. There are 6 drawers and a door in the top behind the two doors. There are four more small drawers behind the door. Behind the writing plate there are three further drawers on the left and right and a shelf in the middle.

Small Mid-19th Century Louis XV Style Bonheur du Jour

Vintage Design

This daily delight opens with a butterfly-winged veneered drawer. The drawer, trimmed with an ornate bronze rod, is fitted with a functional lock with key and original escutcheon.
The belt is also identically plated.
The underside of each crosspiece has a cut-out and is set on a “coup de fouet” foot with a long drop ending in a bronze shoe.
The sliding shelf in four-leaf veneer is covered in red leather with gilded and cold-stamped vignettes.
The recessed top features two small drawers with bronze handles.
Above, the two glass doors, highlighted with bronze baguettes, are fitted with a fully functioning lock with key and keyhole.
The interior features a fixed shelf mounted on cleats.
The uprights are adorned with bronze knot and laurel branch motifs.
The sides and top are also veneered with four leaves.
Refined and charming, this piece du jour will appeal to lovers of small, exceptional pieces of furniture.

Vintage Design

Two-part top secretary from Denmark in the Louis XVI style made of painted and gilded wood.
The upper part with gallery border and jagged cornice as well as two glazed display doors with old glass, behind which are shelves. The lower section has a slanted writing flap with drawers and compartments behind it.
The front is fitted with three larger drawers.
Brass fittings.
The piece of furniture comes from the South Jutland region of Denmark and dates from the 19th century.
Height 220 cm, width 96 cm and depth 60 cm.
Three keys are included.
The furniture has been restored.
The loose part for the stability has been repaired in the meantime.
