Antique 18th Century VOC Dutch Colonial Padouk Ebony Secretary Desk Bureau 1730

A very rare antique Dutch Colonial V.O.C. (Dutch East India Company) fall front bureau/desk on stand, Batavia, circa 1730.
This desk in the Queen Anne style was made in the Dutch East Indies, known as Batavia (now Indonesia) under the Colonial Dutch. The desk is made from padouk (Amboyna) and ebony wood, the desk having an ebony ‘rippled’ gallery to the top that follows the outline of the desk. The paneled fall front with a pierced work escutcheon & key, surrounded with four circular bosses. The fall front encloses a fitted interior with four gothic arched ebony pigeon holes flanked with two banks of three ‘ripple’ fronted drawers, with one wider drawer to the middle. In the floor of the desk is a slide enclosing a ‘secret’ stotrage reservoir, the fall front is supported by a pair of pull-out lopers & pierced & engraved brass hinges to the inside.
The base of the desk has a pair of drawers with pierced brass escutcheons & handles and corresponding circular brass bosses, the desk is raised on a low stand with a shaped skirt & short cabriole legs.
Condition is remarkably very good, no damage or restoration noted, this very elegant Dutch Colonial desk from the first quarter of the 1700’s is ready to grace your home or office.

Rare Two Piece Antique Dutch Marquetry Secretary Desk Cabinet with Mirrored Door

This is a truly unique and rare form of secretary abatant in Flemish or Dutch marquetry. The marquetry is done in walnut and satinwood and features a mirrored door with a fantastic pull-out leather desk surface and drawers inside the top. The cabinet is in two pieces and very solidly made. Dates to the 1900s era and is absolutely beautiful with minor signs of age and use but nothing significant. Dimensions: 74.5 inches high x 38 inches wide x 19 inches deep.

18th Century Dutch Collector’s Cabinet

18th Century Dutch Collector’s Cabinet was designed for the express purpose of keeping a wide variety of numerous collectibles in one case, and features, behind the main cabinet doors, a total of 19 interior drawers and an interior small cabinet. The casework surrounding this design resembles that of trunks from the era, with wrought iron strap hinges and exterior support brackets as well as bale handles, all fashioned by hand from red-hot wrought iron. Even the key guard was meticulously fashioned from wrought iron and resembles a violin base. The panels on each door feature an intriguing rectilinear geometric design, with a tailored crown molding across the top overlooking the piece. The separate stand upon which it rests was produced about a century later in the 1800s using pegged mortise & tenon joinery, and was also fashioned out of solid old-growth oak. This interesting artifact was literally designed to last for centuries!
