When we first saw this stand it immediately grabbed our attention, because we had never seen anything like it. From our experience we could see that this is a tropical hardwood and for an artisan to have carved these beautiful motifs in such depth and with such detail is simply amazing. It must have taken a master carver weeks rather than days to create this majestic stand. From the type of motifs we can tell that this artistic, early 20th century pedestal finds its origin in the Dutch Indies. We cannot find another one anywhere in the world and for us to have been given 1stdibs at acquiring it, again felt like a blessing. For it to have survived in this amazing condition too is a real treat. This antique is a work of art in its own right, but it would also look great with a contrasting color, piece of glass or ceramics on top (preferably with ‘simple lines’).
