A late 18th Century French Directoire Period buffet à deux corps or bibliotheque made of solid walnut and cherry wood with pine inlay outlining the glass panes. Pine as a secondary wood. This large cabinet has two parts: the upper case has two sets of glass paned doors and opens to three adjustable shelves with an inside depth of 7.5″. Beneath the glass case are a set of eight dovetailed drawers, two with working locks and large original brass pulls. The bottom buffet has two sets of wood paneled doors, each opening to one shelf and four dovetailed drawers with replaced pulls (not original to the piece, but of the period) and new escutcheons. Some of the glass panes are original. Normal restoration on feet. Circa 1790-1800.
