This handsome Trestle Table is distinguished by its unusual base. Two sturdy boards are crossed and half-mortised in the center to form the “X”. Four nuts and bolts reinforce the join. The trestle ends are joined with three stretchers, one in the center of the “X” and two at the top, each secured with a wooden key at each end. Removal of the keys and stretchers allows the base to flat-pack. The top, almost two inches thick, is formed with three boards, two wide ones with a narrow one in between. The top is reinforced with two cleats, dovetailed into the underside. The top is criss-crossed with all the signs of purposeful use. Built high at 32.5” for use as a worktable, this table can easily be reduced in height to 30” or so for use as a dining table with a standard chair.
