18th century Country French drop leaf game table ~ console is a remarkable artifact from the 1700s when entertainment consisted of table games, outdoor sports and music. This interesting table, hand-crafted from solid old-growth walnut, features the mark of a talented rural artisan with pegged mortise & tenon joinery, a convenient and capacious drawer, and a back leaf that drops down to create a console mode, then with the help of two slide-out supports cleverly concealed under the table top, opens to create an oval table perfect for games or other entertaining functions. Then, when no longer needed for that purpose, the leaf can be dropped down again and the table placed against the wall. Ingenious! Note the hand-made steel ring pull on the drawer.
