Early Swedish pine bench from northern Sweden. The bench is a very early version of a seat or sofa and this one also has a reversible backrest. It’s an unusual piece due to its age and construction. A bench such as this was commonly placed by a long table or dining table and after the meal the backrest was reversed so the people could sit facing the room.
Made around the mid 1700s in northern Sweden. The bench is wood bare pine and has never been painted so the 250 year old patina and character are completely genuine and truly noteworthy. The bench has traces of earlier repairs, most likely from the 1800s. Such as a few boards in the seat that are changed. Healthy and solid frame.
